Jackets Relay For Life

Primary tabs

Hundreds of Tech students will team up at the Campus Recreation Center Fields to raise money for the American Cancer Society (ACS) at this year’s Relay For Life on April 15.

The overnight event will include free food and t-shirts, hourly track walks and other hourly events to keep students energized throughout the night. Participants need only make a $10 donation to attend, but teams are challenged to raise more to keep a competitive edge going among campus participants.

As of April 11, one month from the event, more than 850 students on nearly 70 teams have donated $33,000 for Tech’s event; the Tech fundraising goal is $60,000. Prizes will be distributed to teams throughout the night of the event and will include televisions and other big-ticket electronic items.

The annual event takes place at a local level in communities around the globe to raise money for the ACS, celebrate the lives of cancer survivors, remember loved ones lost to the disease and metaphorically fight back against cancer’s effects in the lives of its victims and their friends and families. Relay events are overnight to symbolize the fact that, as the American Cancer Society says, “cancer never sleeps.”
