Overview

Thursday, June 17 at 9 a.m. EDT or 2pm BST or 3pm CEST

Join Professor Fabio Aricò as he outlines principles of active learning, by blending self-assessment and peer-instruction to simultaneously develop students' cognitive and meta-cognitive skills. Hear how he successfully implemented these techniques in a large-class Introductory Macroeconomics module at the University of East Angliaby using Turning Response Cards and Turning for PowerPoint.

Professor Aricò measures learning gain and confidence gain in the classroom. The learning gain measure identifies how effectively students can support and learn from each other through peer-discussion. The confidence gain measure quantifies students' perceived improvement in their skills and abilities through self-assessment. As the Higher Education sector becomes progressively more metric-focused, he tackles the very core of the learning process, and shares useful tools for student learning in an active learning environment.
