Dr. Rozell, Chair

Dr. Anderson

Abstract: The objective of the proposed research is the development of an end-to-end system for continuous and unobtrusive blood pressure monitoring based on pulse transit time (PTT) analysis. The system consists of three major components: (1) a wearable chest patch with sensors for measuring physiological data from which PTT  may be derived; (2) a smartphone application for streaming high-throughput  data from the wearable; and (3) novel artificial intelligence algorithms for continuously estimating BP from measured data, which will be implemented on the smartphone. Effective blood pressure monitoring may lead to early detection of life-threatening conditions such as hypertension, which may in turn result in better outcomes for patients.
