The summer is heating up, but there’s good news for those in search of well-being activities: it’s getting a lot cooler at the Campus Recreation Center (CRC). With the transition to summer, the CRC team has announced changes in operations that many in the community will be glad to see.

Members will be most excited to hear that effective Monday, May 24, reservations are no longer required to enter the CRC. Some locations in the CRC will remain on a reservation system, such as racquetball and squash courts, recreational swimming, sport simulator and the climbing wall. All other areas will not require a reservation.

Several updates to operations mean opening up to the wider community again.  Also effective May 24, members can purchase and use guest passes again. Dependents (children) of those on an active membership will be welcomed into the facility again, although a few limitations on recreational swim hours will still be in place. Details on bringing guests are available on the CRC website.

The CRC has rolled out a few other cool features recently. In spring members began using the MyCRC app, which put reservations, virtual fitness information and more at their fingertips.  At the same time, the new Sports Simulator was introduced. Built into one of the old racquetball spaces, the TruGolf Sport Simulator includes virtual golf, hockey, baseball, soccer, and foot golf. A reservation is required for the simulator, but they include equipment like golf clubs and hockey sticks. The MyCRC app is available in both the Apple and GooglePlay stores for download, and can be used to make reservations for the Sports Simulator.

Many will be glad to enjoy a return to 5-on-5 basketball, 6-on-6 volleyball and 2-on-2 badminton on the 4th floor gym courts, which will now be allowed again along with the rental of equipment from the desks like basketballs and racquets (to name a few).

“We’re glad to be able to provide more opportunities and ways to fulfill our community’s active well-being as the weather turns hot,” says the CRC’s interim senior director, Caroline Dotts. She jokes, “Admittedly there is one thing going on in our facility that’s hotter than the outdoors – we anticipate reopening the sauna sometime this summer.”

The community should note that Individuals who are not vaccinated are strongly encouraged to wear a face covering while inside the CRC. Georgia Tech’s vaccine distribution clinic will continue to operate on campus throughout the summer. Additionally, the tower for self-temperature checks will still be available and encouraged at the entrance to the facility.

More information on the CRC’s summer operations, including hours, reservation process details, app store links and more are listed on the CRC operations webpage. Students with questions about the status of their summer membership should contact the Member Services team at info@crc.gatech.edu.
