Recruiting Students for GT CampusLife Research Project

Primary tabs

This GT CampusLife research team is led by Profs. Munmun De Choudhury, Thomas Ploetz, Gregory Abowd and other faculty members. As you may know, the GT contact tracers, the volunteer GT staff, are working hard to reduce the spread of COVID-19 in our community. This team has explored new technologies that help contact tracers and found GT Eduroam Wifi log data can be useful for contact tracers. They are developing a prototype that can show the trajectory of places where a person who tested positive visited and the anonymized others who could have been in close contact with that person.

The researchers are aware of the sensitive nature of Wifi log data so they have closely worked with the GT Institutional Review Board (IRB) to assure that 1) the data is only used for research purposes; 2) the data is anonymized and 3) the research team will be able to identify individuals only if they consent to participate in this research. Please reach out to the Principal Investigator of this study, Prof. Munmun De Choudhury (mchoudhu@cc.gatech.edu), or the student researcher of this study, Wenrui Zhang (zhangwenrui@gatech.edu) if you have any questions or concerns regarding this study.

They are seeking student volunteers who can act as mock COVID-19 positive cases so GT contact tracers can evaluate our prototype. The volunteer students will be asked to join a phone call lasting no more than 30 minutes with a GT contact tracer and another 30-minute follow-up remote interview with a research team member. To thank you for your time and effort, they will provide a $15 gift card.

In order to participate:

  • You must be 18 years old or older
  • You must be a Georgia Tech student
  • You must regularly use Eduroam when you come to campus
  • You must regularly come to an in-person class in May 17 - June 15, 2021

Please fill out this screening survey if you’re interested in participating in our research. Based on the screening survey results, we will reach out to you via the email address that you will leave at the end of the survey.
