Building Global Leaders and Celebrating Culture: 2021 Diversity and Inclusivity Month

Primary tabs

Each spring since 2008, Georgia Tech celebrates and brings awareness to our community’s diverse student body through Diversity and Inclusivity Month.

The Office of Student Diversity Programs’ mission is to prepare students to live, learn, and work in a global society. Each year the Office sponsors workshops, programs, and trainings to prepare our students to be global citizens and global leaders.

The programs and the events offered during Diversity and Inclusivity Month are available to the entire Georgia Tech community. Workshops include “Understanding White Privilege” and “Lovecraft Country and Black Imagination as a Tool for Liberation.” In addition, Student Life Inclusion, Advocacy, and Support Programs; the Black Lady Planners; and the Student Planning Association presented a panel discussion, “Combating Gentrification: How Can You Get Involved?,” on March 17. Panelists included key leaders representing Atlanta-based organizations such as the Just Growth Portfolio Partnership for Southern Equity, the Grove Park Foundation, and the Atlanta Neighborhood Development Partnership.

The Office is excited to introduce new programs for students to enjoy, such as the Indigenous Students Meet and Greet. “This is the first attempt to bring Indigenous and First Nation students together to ascertain their needs,” said Stephanie Ray, associate dean and director of the Office of Student Diversity Programs. “Jathan Caldwell, a third-year ISYE major, presented the idea to me, and I am excited to share this endeavor with the Office of Hispanic Initiatives.”

In addition, there are events that foster fun and relaxation, including Verzuz Through the Decades. For a full description of the events and information about how to register, visit diversityprograms.gatech.edu/content/diversity-inclusivity-month
