March 21st GT Deadline to Submit IGERT Proposals

Primary tabs

Proposal requirements:

The National Science Foundation is soliciting proposals in the Integrative Graduate Education and Research Traineeship (IGERT) Program, which is designed to meet the challenges of educating U.S. Ph.D. scientists and engineers. The program is intended to catalyze a cultural change in graduate education, for students, faculty, and institutions, by establishing innovative new models for graduate education and training in a fertile environment for collaborative research that transcends traditional disciplinary boundaries. It is also intended to facilitate diversity in student participation and preparation, and to contribute to the development of a diverse, globally-engaged, science and engineering work force.

Additional program information can be found at: http://www.nsf.gov/pubs/2010/nsf10523/nsf10523.htm?WT.mc_id=USNSF_25.

An institution may submit no more than four (4) preliminary proposals either as a single institution or as the lead institution in a multi-institutional preliminary proposal. The NSF preliminary proposal deadline is Tuesday, March 29, 2011, by 5:00 p.m. Since there is a limit on the number of preliminary proposals Georgia Tech may submit, please submit a five-page (5-page) summary of your proposal to the Office of the Executive Vice Provost for Research (EVPR). A faculty committee will recommend to the EVPR which proposals they feel would best represent Georgia Tech. Please submit your proposals electronically by March 21, 2011, to research@carnegie.gatech.edu.

Please follow the following format for your preliminary proposals (see NSF 10-523, Section II: Program Description):
Pages 1-4
-    Project title; indicate if this is a new or renewal project
-    Principal Investigator(s) and Project Director(s) with the institutions they represent
-    Proposal summary including the information requested in Features of an IGERT Project
Page 5
-    Project budget and funding
Please note that cost-sharing is not required by NSF.

Please contact Monique Tavares (monique@gatech.edu, 404.894.3237) should you have any questions.
