Business, Environment, and Society Speaker Series: Basak Kalkanci, Associate Professor, Georgia Tech (Virtual)

Primary tabs

The Ray C. Anderson Center for Sustainable Business (“Center”) invites you to the next talk in our Business, Environment, and Society Speaker Series. The event is open to the public.

Kalkanci’s research interests are in supply chain management, including social and environmental reporting and sustainability, behavioral operations management, supply contracts, and the role of information in supply chains.

The talk, “When Do Public Supplier Lists Improve Profits and Sustainability Goals?,” will provide insights that will be of interest to practitioners whose work relates to mitigating social and environmental violations in supply chains.

Discussion topics will include the following:

  • Under what conditions does a firm’s commitment to publish its list of approved suppliers increase its expected profit as well as the environmental, social, and governance (ESG) efforts of its suppliers?
  • If a firm commits to publishing a “blacklist” of suppliers that fail ESG audits, what effect does this have on the firm’s profits and supplier’s ESG performance?

Kalkanci will present her talk, engage in a Q&A with Prof. Manpreet Hora, and take questions from the audience.
