ONE MAN AGAINST ALL ODDS

VIRTUAL GUEST LECTURE BY ELIEZERA BEN-YEHUDA CASSUTO

November 9th, 2020 at 5:00 p.m. EST

The life story of Eliezer Ben-Yehuda, who struggled to revive a 2,000-year-old, ancient and dead language, which has been used mostly for Torah Study, has now renewed Hebrew as a Modern Spoken Language.

Eliezera was born in Jerusalem in 1936 and grew up in the Ben-Yehuda house in the Talpiot neighborhood of Jerusalem. She grew up during the Arab riots, the British Mandate, the siege of Jerusalem and the War of Independence. After attending a Talpiot elementary school she studied at the "Eshkoli,” Beit Chinuch school. At the age of 18, Eliezera left Jerusalem to begin a journey of study and self-search. She arrived in New York where she studied, matured, and shaped herself.

Eliezra holds a master's degree in education from the Brooklyn College, as well as a doctoral degree in the composition of curriculum and teacher training at Columbia University (New York). She has been in education for many years. She has worked as a Hebrew teacher and taught general subjects in American public schools, private Jewish schools, and synagogues. Eliezera has built curricula, and she deals with teacher training and instruction in Jewish and Hebrew summer camps.

In addition, she wrote the book "Between Sunrises an Sunsets," which brings together stories that reflect her life and memories, as well as the Israeli and Jewish experience. The book carries a special aroma of the Hebrew language in the house of her father and is accompanied by a dictionary of expressions of the Ben-Yehuda language and their interpretation in contemporary Hebrew.

Eliezera is the widow of Avi Cassuto. She has four children, ten grandchildren and a great-grandchild.
