Changing Relationships - You and Your Aging Parents
Primary tabs
It is important to communicate more calmly and productively with aging parents who can no longer live independently. Most adult children find it difficult to talk to their parents about their decline in physical and mental abilities, external care services they may need, and the possibility of new living arrangements.
To make this process easier, this session will present participants with techniques that overcome common communication barriers when elders are resistant, angry, or unwilling to listen. They will also explore helpful assumptions about aging and how to understand the loss of independence from their parent’s perspective
