Lost Friendship? U.S.- China Relations
Featuring:
Michael Fuchs
Senior Fellow, Center for American Progress
June Members Forum
Tuesday, June 9, 2020
12:00 PM - 12:45 PM ET
The U.S.-China relationship was deteriorating before COVID-19.
With the pandemic, its relationship has become hostile.
President Donald Trump blames China for concealing critical information about COVID-19, and refers to the pandemic as the “Chinese virus.” President Xi claims the virus was brought to China by US military. Add trade, human rights and Hong Kong to the mix and it appears US-China relations are on a downward spiral.
Is the Trump-Xi honeymoon over?
Michael Fuchs, who served as deputy assistant secretary of state for East Asian and Pacific affairs at the Department of State and now is a Senior Fellow at the Center for American Progress, will discuss the future may hold for U.S.-China relations.
