Abstract:

The objective of this proposed research is to elucidate the effects of knee joint biomechanics on acoustical emissions (AEs), which will require the development of novel signal processing techniques for interpreting these high-dimensional signals. The biomechanical properties/applied conditions on the joint that will be explored are compressive force as a result of loading, muscle strength, and the ranges of motion at different speeds of articulations. This research focuses on novel methods of interpreting the characteristics of the joint AEs and defines the correlation and effects of the biomechanics on these sounds.
