Primary tabs
Microbe-microbe interactions and the oral microbiome
Studies of bacteria living in association with animals, with plants, and in the environment have revealed that microbial communities are complex and dynamic. For a bacterium to persist in these communities, it must be fit with both the native community members and with non-native, invading microbes. Here, I will share work using oral microbiota to explore microbe-microbe interactions. By leveraging both simple microbial communities and next-generation sequencing, this work advances our understanding of how polymicrobial interactions modulate the genes required for fitness in vivo.
