The chemosensory ecology of salt marsh communities
Chemical signals regulate how predators find food and how prey avoid being eaten. As such, the nature and transport of chemical cues in these environments has a strong effect on the organization and function of these communities. This talk will discuss the roles that chemical signal properties, their transport through the fluid environment, and their ecological effects have on interactions in estuarine habits including oyster reefs. The ubiquitous and prevalence of chemically mediated interactions suggests that understanding the role of chemical cues may have important management implications for both oyster aquaculture and conservation.
