Anna Westerstahl Stenport, co-Director of the Atlanta Global Studies Center and Chair of the School of Modern Languages, presented on integrating global learning, foreign language education and career preparation in the liberal arts at the annual meeting of the Association of American Colleges & Universities (AAC&U) on Jan. 24.

Stenport’s presentation with Gundolf Graml, professor of German and Assistant Dean of Global Learning at Agnes Scott College, highlighted what it takes to build sustainable cross-institutional collaborations for global learning that also include deep and engaged partnerships with the public and private sectors. “I am truly excited about the School of Modern Languages career education efforts that advance cross-cultural communication and immersive language learning to prepare students for global leadership. The  many strong partnerships we have with industry, the public sector, and institutions of higher education across greater Atlanta set our students up for lifelong success in a number of careers, including through our innovative professional master’s programs in Global Media and Cultures and Applied Languages and Intercultural Studies. The School is a nationally recognized innovator and change agent in this space, which makes me very proud.”

The theme for this year’s AAC&U meeting is “Shaping the Future of Higher Education: An Invitation to Lead.” The event showcased “equitable, innovative, and cost-effective models for providing today’s students with a strong, relevant, and inclusive liberal education.” For more information, visit the AAC&U website.
