Abstract: The objective of the proposed research is to develop seismocardiogram (SCG) analysis methods which improve the feasibility of using this technology in uncontrolled settings. The SCG is a noninvasively-obtained bio-signal that measures the mechanical response of the chest wall to underlying cardiovascular events. Though this waveform is useful for inferring important indicators of cardiac function, there are several factors which have limited the widespread use of SCG in at-home and other ambulatory environments. The ultimate contribution of this research is to bridge the gap between SCG theory and applications by developing robust processing methods while also gleaning insight into the waveform itself. Doing so may soon enable wearable cardiac monitoring systems to obtain a more holistic view of cardiovascular health and function.
