Introduction from the New Pre-Law Advisor

Primary tabs

Chad Slieper (chad.slieper@gatech.edu) will now serve as the pre-law advisor for all GT students and alumni interested in legal career. His introduction is below:

Good morning,

My name is Chad Slieper, and I am the Director of Georgia Tech’s Law, Science, and Technology Program.  The Law, Science, and Technology (LST) Program is an academic program housed in the School of Public Policy that offers both a Minor in Law, Science, and Technoloy, and a Pre-Law Certificate.  I also serve as the pre-law advisor for any Georgia Tech student or alum from any major interested in a career in law or going to law school, regardless of whether they are enrolled in the Minor or Certificate program.  As of July 1, 2019, C2D2 is no longer offering Pre-Law advisement services, and we have merged their Pre-Law Advising listserv with our own to ensure that you continue to receive information as needed related to pre-law advisement and pre-law happenings at Georgia Tech.  During the summer, e-mails are sent to the list as needed, and during the academic year, the list serves as a more regular newsletter.

By way of introductions, I graduated from Georgia Tech with my Bachelor of Science in Public Policy in 2002 (including having earned the Pre-Law Certificate), and I went on to earn my Juris Doctor from Emory Law School in 2005.  I’ve spent my career in the area of professional ethics, including both legal ethics and medical ethics, with my main focus being on healthcare and clinical ethics.  I completed a fellowship in medical ethics at The University of Texas M. D. Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, and I was on faculty as a clinical ethicist at M. D. Anderson for a number of years.  I’ve also worked in-house for large law firms in Atlanta dealing mainly with the management of conflicts of interest.  I’m so thrilled to be back home in Georgia Tech’s School of Public Policy, and to have the privilege of devoting my career to the Law, Science, and Technology program and to working with you all as you prepare for a career in law, or in unpacking ideas that otherwise interest you.  I’ll be teaching US Constitutional Issues in the fall, and a new course dealing with Law, Medicine, and Ethics in the spring of next year.

My office hours for the summer are by appointment, and I’m always happy to discuss our LST Minor and Pre-Law Certificate programs with you, along with any other questions you may have about law school, legal careers, etc.  Stop by and say hello (I’m in DM Smith 210).

I’m looking forward to working with you as you journey towards a possible career in law!
