A semester studying at Georgia Tech-Lorraine (GTL), Tech’s European campus, provides value to students in many ways. Besides memories and friendships that will last a lifetime, GTL offers the courses students need to propel them toward graduation at a similar or even lower cost than studying on Tech’s Atlanta campus. 

Located in historic Metz, France, (about 90-minutes from Paris by train) GTL is open to students from all majors during the Fall, Spring, or Summer semester. All courses are taught in English, mostly by Tech professors. Students to stay on track toward their degree while also experiencing Europe. 

This all sounds great, right? Well, it gets even better! Out-of-state and international students save money by studying at GTL-- they pay only in-state tuition, plus an additional program fee. In-state students pay regular in-state tuition at GTL. There are other costs to consider such as airfare and incidentals, but there are also ways for students to reduce costs while abroad. 

Housing is another way that Tech students can end up saving money at GTL. The dorms at GTL are less expensive than most housing options on Tech’s Atlanta campus. The most popular dorm offers private bedrooms and bathrooms with a kitchenette. Other dorms offer a shared bathroom and communal kitchens. 

Financial aid is another consideration for GTL students. Financial aid may still apply at GTL, since it is a Georgia Tech campus. Plus, there are scholarships available to students spending Fall or Spring semester on the Lorraine campus. Students can also cut costs by applying to be a resident assistant at GTL, a position that consists of weekly hours worked to assist with residence-life matters, in exchange for having most housing costs covered. Students who enjoy writing can apply to be the GTL blogger in the Fall or Spring to have their work published on our blog and receive a two-month Eurail Train Pass in return.
