Try your Hand at Art and Computing this Weekend with Georgia Tech’s Horizon Make-a-thon
Primary tabs
Students from metro-Atlanta colleges and universities will come together this weekend for Horizons, a make-a-thon hosted by Georgia Tech’s nonprofit hackathon student organization, HackGT.
From April 5-6, teams of students will have the opportunity to utilize resources and support provided by HackGT to bring their ideas to physical and digital life. Horizons will be a two-day event with the first day lasting from 6-11 p.m. and the second day running from 9 a.m. until 10:30 p.m.
During Horizons, participants will have the opportunity to brainstorm, design, and create projects that integrate technology with art. At the end of the event, students will showcase their projects for judges who will vote to award prizes in specific categories.
You can register for the event here.
The event will also include special performances from Georgia Tech's own Seoulstice, ATL Beatbox, Women’s Choir, and Musician's Network. Workshops will also be held, as well as mentorship sessions to spark inspiration. Some recognizable names of speakers and mentors include Digital Media and Music Technology Postdoctoral Fellow Astrid Bin and School of Literature, Media, and Communication Professor Mark Leibert.
Horizons is the first make-a-thon hosted by HackGT with the aim to integrate the A into STEAM – science, technology, engineering, art, and math – more fully.
For those interested in participating or attending:
- Anyone 18 years or older can attend.
- The event is free and resources – including food and specialty hardware – will be provided.
- Bring your laptop and whatever tools or art supplies you think would be helpful.
- Mentors will be on hand to help with projects, presentations, idea creation, and technical difficulties.
The event will be held on campus at the Georgia Tech Instructional Center.
