The Cybersecurity Lecture Series at Georgia Tech is a free, one-hour lecture from a thought leader who is advancing the field of information security and privacy. Invited speakers include executives and researchers from Fortune 500 companies, federal intelligence agencies, start-ups, and incubators, as well as Georgia Tech faculty and students presenting their research. Lectures are open to all -- students, faculty, industry, government, or simply the curious.

Abstract:

"Defending Organizations in a Fast-Moving Cyber Arms Race"

This presentation will provide an in-depth analysis of the latest trends, tactics, and news of the cyber threat landscape as seen from the eyes of a practicing security architect. Providing more than just breach detection, SonicWall delivers automated real-time breach prevention that protects organizations from cyber threats including ransomware, encrypted malware, email, and chip-based threats. Rob will share extracts from the 2018 SonicWall Cyber Threat Report including topics of Threat Intelligence, Industry Analysis, and Cybersecurity Guidance. He will also discuss how SonicWall’s research is practically applied to respond to SSL/TLS encryption hiding attacks, malware cocktails, and processor threats such as Meltdown.

Bio:

Rob Krug has been in the network engineering and security space for over 27 years and has been recognized as a past SonicWall Security Engineer of the Year. His background includes extensive work with telecommunications, network design and management, and network security. Specializing in security vulnerabilities, Rob has extensive training and experience in cryptography, ethical hacking, and reverse engineering of malware. A Master CSSA, Rob has dozens of industry certifications and is a SonicWall Technical Master. He served in the United States Navy within Naval Intelligence, and also worked as both a data security analyst and director of engineering for multiple international service providers. Rob has designed, implemented and maintained some of the most complex and secure networks imaginable...and he collects malware for fun.
