Meet Nithya Koganti – B.S. Industrial Engineering, Class of 2020

Why did you choose to attend Georgia Tech?

When I came to visit, I was so impressed by the opportunities available for students. There were so many ways to get involved, and I immediately felt like I was surrounded by determined and hardworking individuals. At other schools, I saw that they offered a career fair just for the engineering school, but at Georgia Tech, I was astounded that even my major had its own career fair. Plus, after high school and growing up in the same town for 18 years, I wanted to experience a different environment in a place that I’d never been before. I knew that Georgia Tech would force me out of my comfort zone and allow me to grow more than just my education.

What is your favorite memory at Tech?

My favorite memories were made during my study abroad experiences over the past two summers, at the University of Oxford in England and Georgia Tech-Lorraine in Metz, France. Across these two summers, I was able to learn so many real-world and “adulting” skills that you could never learn in a classroom. I learned how to navigate public transportation in countries where I didn’t speak the language. I learned how to handle difficult situations, like the time I was stranded in Paris after my trains were canceled. I also learned how to manage my time while working as a resident advisor, taking four classes, planning weekend trips, and being completely independent.

What do you like to do outside of classes?

I love to do yoga and go running. I recently started taking classes at a yoga studio in Midtown and I love it. I was also able to train and complete my first half marathon last semester.

What are your plans after graduation?

I’m still deciding what I want to do after college, but I’m interested in supply chain, data analytics, and maybe consulting. I ultimately want to use my degree to do good in my community, whether it be to create new sustainability initiatives or work at a nonprofit organization. After graduation, my biggest goal is to move to a new city or even country and gain exposure to a totally different environment.
