TEAM Buzz Seeks Volunteers for October 2 Service Day

Primary tabs

On October 2, two civic-minded organizations will join forces for one of the city’s largest volunteer community service events.

Hands on Atlanta, a local non-profit focused on community development, has partnered with Georgia Tech’s own TEAM Buzz, a student-led organization devoted to volunteerism and public service, to improve the city’s parks, schools and community centers. As a result, both TEAM Buzz Service Day and Hands on Atlanta Day will be held simultaneously, in support and celebration of Hands on Atlanta’s 20th anniversary.

TEAM Buzz is asking all members of the Georgia Tech community to participate, with a goal of sending more than 2,000 Yellow Jackets to dozens of projects around the city.

“We want Georgia Tech to be well represented on October 2,” said Rohan Thakur, an undergraduate student who serves as co-executive director for TEAM Buzz. “But longer term, we want to expand beyond Atlanta. Service projects are already confirmed for students and alumni located in Amsterdam and South Korea later this year, and more will be finalized in the coming weeks. These projects will be ongoing as students continue to participate in Georgia Tech’s study abroad programs throughout the school year.”

“Georgia Tech’s motto is ‘Progress and Service,’” said President G. P. “Bud” Peterson. “Initiatives such as TEAM Buzz summon the very best in us, a commitment that makes a positive impact in our community. My hope is that the Georgia Tech family will consider volunteerism through TEAM Buzz and Hands on Atlanta, improving the quality of life throughout Atlanta.”
