Mark Your Calendars Now With These Important Fall Dates

From the Grad Student Welcome to the deadline to register for two-factor authentication, there are several important dates that all graduate students should have on their radars.  

Aug. 29: Grad Student Welcome
Come learn about Tech traditions and get to know fellow graduate students at Tech’s Graduate Student Welcome. It will kick off with Graduate Convocation at 4:30 p.m. in McCamish Pavilion and will be followed by a picnic in the same location at 5:30 p.m. 

Aug. 30: President’s 2018 Institute Address
President G.P. “Bud” Peterson will deliver his annual Institute Address to campus from 11 a.m. to noon in Room 152, Clough Commons. He will cover recent Institute achievements and plans for the future, as well as answer questions from the audience.

Aug. 31: Deadline for Mandatory Student Health Waiver 
Students opting out of Tech’s student health insurance plan must submit a waiver by this date. Without it, you will be automatically enrolled in Tech’s plan, and the associated fees will be placed on your student account.

Sept. 3: Deadline for Two-Factor Authentication Registration
Students are required to enroll in Tech’s Two-factor Authentication program by this date.

Sept 13: 3MT Information Session 
An 80,000-word thesis typically takes nine hours to present. Could you present yours in three minutes? Since 2015, our Three Minute Thesis (3MT®) competition has helped graduate students hone their communication skills by challenging them to share their research in three minutes in a way anyone could understand. Learn more at an information session on Sept. 13 from 2-3 p.m. in the Ivan Allen College Conference Room (Room 115), Savant Building.

Sept. 20: 3MT Competition Workshop 1

Since 2015, Georgia Tech's Three Minute Thesis (3MT®) competition has helped graduate students hone their communication skills by challenging them to share their research in three minutes in a way anyone could understand. The first 3MT workshop will focus on creating a presentation for the competition preliminaries and will be held at 9 a.m. in Room 320, Student Center.

Sept. 28: 3MT Competition Workshop 2
The second 3MT workshop will assist participants in refining and rehearsing their presentations and will be held at 10 a.m. in the Communication Center (Room 447, Clough Commons).

Oct. 4: 3MT Competition Workshop 3
The third 3MT workshop will provide an opportunity for international students to practice their presentations and will be held at 9 a.m. in Room 320, Student Center.

Oct. 10: 3MT Competition Workshop 4
The fourth 3MT workshop will focus on polishing participants’ oral presentations and slides, and will be held at 2 p.m. in the Communication Center (Room 447, Clough Commons).

Oct. 13: HAVEN Deadline
Graduate students are required to complete Haven Plus Sexual Assault Prevention Training by Oct. 13. The online training opens on Sept. 7.

Oct. 15: 3MT Competition Preliminary Round 1
The entire campus community is invited to support participants in the first preliminary round of the 3MT Competition, which will be held at 3 p.m. in the Peachtree Room, Student Center. The winners of each round will compete in the final round in November. 

Oct. 18: 3MT Competition Preliminary Round 2
The entire campus community is invited to support participants in the second preliminary round of the 3MT Competition, which will be held at 5 p.m. in the Peachtree Room, Student Center. The winners of each round will compete in the final round in November.
