Primary tabs

Do you believe in walking meetings, office yoga or team meditation? If you answered yes to the above then apply to be part of the next cohort of Well-Being Activators on campus. Health & Well-Being is recruiting students and employees to become Well-Being Activators for the fall 2018 semester!

Well-Being Activators are ambassadors and champions whose mission is to enhance a culture of health, wellbeing, and caring at Georgia Tech. They serve as well-being role models within their respective group or department, inspiring others to flourish physically, emotionally, spiritually, professionally, socially, and personally.

“Well-Being Activators play a pivotal role in moving the well-being needle on campus,” said HI Senior Director, Stacy Connell. “The Activators take a unique approach to health and well-being by incorporating it into every day for their colleagues and friends. It can be as easy as establishing walking meetings to creating full-fledged residence hall health challenges. We provide the tools and support while the activators infuse the changes into their respected areas.”

Well-Being Activators commit one hour per week to implement programming or promoting health, well-being and caring in addition to a group meeting every month. They are also charged with communicating health and well-being messaging to their respective group or department and encouraging participation in programs and events on campus. Yolonda Cameron from Legal Affairs & Risk Management became an activator to, “cultivate a community of health, well-being and caring on a practical level. That is, it means not only sharing various health & wellness tips and initiatives at Georgia Tech but also facilitating a variety of health & wellness activities.” Some of her programmings included herbal tea breaks, walking tours and reflection hours.

Those who are selected will gain a variety of skills related to leadership, well-being, and fostering healthy behavior change that are relevant to their everyday lives and transferable into their future professional goals. Chemical Engineering student and Well-Being Activator, Justin Goveas said, “I’m able to take what I’ve learned in the activators program and incorporate it into the lives of people around me. It’s something I’m thankful for because I’m better able to be there for my friends and the people I care about.”

Applications to become a Well-Being Activator for fall 2018 are currently available! The student application is due September 13th with a mandatory training September 23rd for selected applicants. The employee application is due September 27th with a mandatory training October 12th for selected applicants. For more information and to apply, go to healthinitiatives.gatech.edu/WBA.
