Jeffrey Collins to be honored at the AIA Atlanta Young Architects Forum for the 2018 Emerging Voices

Primary tabs

Each year, the Young Architects Forum of AIA Atlanta recognizes individuals and firms who demonstrate influence in the design community of Atlanta. This juried series is a public forum for architects and designers, early in their careers, to encourage an open exchange of ideas with both practitioners and the public.

This year, Jeffrey Collins, instructor and Ph.D. candidate in the Georgia Tech School of Architecture will be honored as part of the event on Tuesday, May 22 at Ponce City Market.

Collins’ exhibition is described as an installation that explores, “…parametric variations emanating from a series of basic steps: (1) given a space, (2) populated with control points, (3) define curves, and (4) join to create surfaces. Exploration of variations of this concept are used as an exercise for teaching parametric modelling; the drawings in this exhibit have been created by Georgia Tech Master of Architecture students learning visual scripting, techniques of representation, and approaches for surface panelization, through support of this project. Depictions are arranged in a spectrum, from modest departures of the original diagram to more and more complex propositions, demonstrating a range of design pathways stemming from a singular script. One instance is selected for further detailing and fabrication at full scale.
