Protecting Your Data

Primary tabs

Georgia Tech has an established culture of openness and sharing of ideas. However, with the increase in attacks on Georgia Tech networks, computers, and data, we have worked to find a balance between keeping that culture of openness and protecting the key IT resources on campus. Data protection is a key strategy in these efforts. Everyday, faculty, staff, and students access and use data on computers around Tech.

This class is intended for all users that work with research, student, or employee data. During the session, we will cover the main points of the Data Access Policy as well as steps and tools available to users to help protect their data. Instructors will draw from real world examples of data breaches and how to lower your risk of being involved in one.

At the end of the class, students will:

  • Be able to identify the main causes of data breaches at higher education institutions.
  • Explain the key points of the GT Data Access Policy.
  • Explain the importance of protecting student and research data.
  • Know what tools/processes they can use to protect their data.
