Primary tabs

School of Public Policy Regents and Brook Byers Professor of Sustainable Systems Marilyn Brown recently participated in the Department of Energy's Electricity Advisory Committee meeting. Dr. Brown presented a subcommittee report on grid integrated vehicles, emphasizing the potential for electric vehicles to contribute to the reliability and resilience of the U.S. grid. With two-way charging, electric vehicles can provide emergency back-up generation to homeowners, they can help to balance systems powered by intermittent solar and wind resources, and much more. After completing a survey of Advisory Committee members to identify opportunities, obstacles, and solutions, Dr. Brown concluded her presentation by summarizing the subcommittee’s next steps, including a future white paper on this topic with an opportunity to provide recommendations to the U.S. Department of Energy.
