Anna Westerstahl Stenport Elected to the ADFL Executive Committee

Primary tabs

Anna Westerstahl Stenport, chair and professor of the School of Modern Languages, has been elected to the executive committee of the Modern Language Association’s Association of Departments of Foreign Languages (MLA-ADFL) for a four-year term, beginning January 2018.

Representing approximately one thousand college and university departments, the ADFL takes a leadership role in examining issues confronting the study, research, and advocacy of modern and foreign languages in the United States and Canada. The ADFL articulates field-wide consensus on standards of good practice in education, outreach, and evaluation of teaching and scholarship, employment and workload conditions, and procedures for departmental review, in addition to conducting surveys on undergraduate and graduate programs, staffing, doctoral placements, and enrollments.

In her role, Stenport will be advocating in particular for the needs, visibility, and contributions of less commonly taught languages, especially at research one universities and in the service of public engagement.

The 2018 ADFL-ADE Summer Seminar South will be held at the Georgia Tech Hotel and Conference Center from June 13 - 17.
