IPaT Thursday Think Tank: Platforms and Services for the Research Enterprise

Primary tabs

Networking: 3:30 pm

Discussion: 4-5 pm

“Multi-disciplinary, multi-institution, big data, transformative, cross-cultural, …” these are some of the common keywords attached to many medium to large research funding opportunities. Going after these opportunities and performing this type of research increasingly requires the support of a team with significant, specialized skill sets with access to extensive resources. This is what we mean by platforms and services to support research!

Rahul Basole (IC) and Russ Clark (CS) will facilitate a discussion about platforms and services, how we use them, how we support them, and how GT can lead the way in defining these ideas through research and production. Join us for a discussion including:

- platform business models

- APIs and microservices

- "atoms" and "bits” of platforms and services

- how to connect research and practice on these topics

- how to think about platforms and services at different scales and how to integrate this thinking.

Moderators:

Rahul Basole, Associate Professor, School of Interactive Computing

Russ Clark, Senior Research Scientist, School of Computer Science
