Primary tabs

Jennifer Evanuik Baird, Director of the Global Internship Program and International Plan, represented Georgia Tech at the Forum EPFL last week. The Forum EPFL is the largest career fair in Switzerland, and one of the largest in Europe, with over 150 companies, 70 start-ups and 20 universities. The Forum’s primary goal is to help students with their professional careers, by providing them with the opportunity to establish contacts with potential employers. It also includes an International Fair, which promotes international mobility between EPFL and its partner schools. The Forum EPFL is a non-profit organization headed by a committee composed of students from École Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne (EPFL). This is the first time Georgia Tech has been represented at this fair. Many students expressed interest in coming to Georgia Tech for an exchange term, for graduate programs, for short-term research, and for post-doc positions. In addition, Georgia Tech’s Global Internship Program was promoted to the participating companies.

EPFL is a Swiss university located on the shores of Lake Geneva that also has a bilateral exchange partnership with Georgia Tech. The EPFL Lausanne Exchange Program offers 13 complete study programs at the Bachelor and Master levels in engineering, basic sciences, computer and communication sciences, life sciences, architecture and the environment. EPFL has become a world-renowned international institution with more than 100 nationalities on campus. The School has a unique organization to foster cross-disciplinary research and promote partnerships with other institutions and companies. Its more than 250 laboratories and research groups enable EPFL to rank among the world’s most innovative and productive institutions in terms of science. In fact, EPFL offers paid research internships to Georgia Tech students who come to EPFL on exchange.

Raksha Muthukumar, a computer science student, spent a year studying in Lausanne, Switzerland, as part of Georgia Tech’s EPFL Exchange Program. “EPFL has a great structure in place for exchange students to get to know each other, and the city is really easy to navigate,” Raksha said. “The classes are a lot like Georgia Tech’s, so you’ll be well prepared and definitely feel the familiarity in that aspect. Switzerland is a great place to travel from, and lots of beautiful things are just a short plane, train, or car ride away.” Read more about Raksha’s year in Switzerland here: https://www.cc.gatech.edu/exchange-program-offers-taste-life-abroad.
