Enjoy Labor Day Events around Atlanta
Primary tabs
Welcome back, Jackets. In honor of Labor Day, classes will not be held Monday, Sept. 4. Make the most of the time by getting off campus and enjoying one of these upcoming events.
Chick-fil-A Kickoff Game
Georgia Tech will face the University of Tennessee at the Mercedes-Benz Stadium on Monday, Sept. 4. The sold-out Chick-fil-A Kickoff Game between the Yellow Jackets and Volunteers begins at 8 p.m. The game will be televised nationally on ESPN, so students who were unable to get tickets can still cheer on the Jackets.
For students attending the game, the Georgia Tech Police Department has advised a specific walking route and will provide patrols along that path following the game. View a map of GTPD's advised route.
Dragon Con
Dragon Con will be held from 10 a.m. on Friday, Sept. 1, to 5 p.m. on Monday, Sept. 4. Head out to the five host hotels including the Hyatt Regency Atlanta, Atlanta Hilton, Sheraton Atlanta, Atlanta Marriott Marquis, and the Westin Peachtree Plaza Hotel in downtown Atlanta. A highlight of the convention includes the annual parade down Peachtree Street on Saturday, Sept. 2. The parade, which draws thousands of enthusiastic spectators each year, begins at 10 a.m.
For those with Dragon Con tickets, don’t miss an interactive symposium featuring Georgia Tech researchers, who will be discussing “The Human Search for Origins and Life Beyond Earth” on Sunday, Sept. 3, at 11 a.m. The College of Computing is also hosting several panels. See a full list of Tech-related events.
Stone Mountain
The Stone Mountain Labor Day Weekend will be held Sept. 2–4. Park attractions will be open from 10:30 a.m. to 8 p.m. with a fireworks display beginning at 9:30 p.m. Admission to the fireworks and laser show is included with the purchase of a parking pass.
Georgia Aquarium
To celebrate Labor Day, the Georgia Aquarium will be open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Monday, Sept. 4. General admission tickets can be purchased online for a discounted rate. Visit the Georgia Aquarium website for details.
AJC Decatur Book Festival
Enjoy the largest independent book festival in the country, and one of the five largest overall, where you can hear authors talk about their works, see performances, and visit a fair of exhibitors, including the Georgia Tech Library. The free festival takes place Friday, Sept. 1, through Sunday, Sept. 3, with a full day of activities on Saturday and Sunday.
This event features Georgia Tech students and faculty members. Come out to support students on Sunday at the book festival's Annual Poetry Stage. Faculty will be reading on Saturday. View the schedule here.
