Atlanta Shakespeare Company Company Archives Internship

Primary tabs

This unpaid internship is designed to give a local college student the chance to participate in the beginning stages of an archival project to preserve, archive, digitize, and eventually provide free public access through an online, digital collection of thirty-two years of Atlanta Shakespeare Company materials. Materials consist of photographs, playbills, slides and negatives, videos, posters, brochures, newspaper and journal clippings, and documents relating to the foundation and expansion of the company, as well as mixed media objects like costumes, props, small set pieces, and models. ASC is an important fixture in the Atlanta arts community, and this archival project will ensure that our materials, which constitute a record of our artistic growth and our contribution to the Atlanta theatrical scene, will be properly preserved.

The ASC Archives Internship is designed to be flexible in many ways. The Archives Intern may conduct a short internship, beginning the week of Monday, October 2, 2017 and ending the week before school exams in December 2017 or a longer internship, beginning the week of Monday, October 2, 2017 and ending the week before school exams in April or May of 2018. An intern who elects to complete a longer internship will be given time off when school is not in session in December 2017-January 2018. An intern who elects to complete a longer internship will have more opportunity to record oral histories and work closely with ASC’s archivist than a student who elects to complete the shorter internship. The Archives Intern must work at least five and no more than ten hours per week but may work on any one or two weekdays each week between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. The Archives Intern will work with the Internship Supervisor to determine a fixed schedule before the start of the internship, but the intern may adjust his or her internship schedule to fit different class times in the fall and spring semesters. The internship may be completed independent from a student’s studies or may be completed for college credit.
