Bell, Taylor Join College of Computing Advisory Board

When the College of Computing Advisory Board convenes this week for its spring meeting, it will welcome two new members who will help guide the College’s path forward.

Mark Bell, managing principal at the investment management firm Diversified Trust, and Patrick Taylor, chief executive officer of the software firm Oversight Systems Inc., have joined the Advisory Board for three-year terms.

At Diversified Trust, Bell has primary responsibility for business development and client relationship management. He previously served as chief investment officer and a managing director for BlueArc Capital Management, an alternative asset manager for family offices, where he remains a director. Bell began his career with McKinsey & Co. and subsequently was director of strategy at D.E. Shaw & Co. In 2007, he led a $200 million recapitalization for The Brand Banking Company as well as other initiatives with Brand Group Holdings.

Bell is a bachelor’s graduate of Stanford University and went on to earn his Ph.D and master’s degrees from Oxford University, where he was a Marshall Scholar. He is also the recipient of a Fulbright Scholarship and has been named to Atlanta and Georgia’s “40 Under 40” by both the Atlanta Business Chronicle and Georgia Trend magazine, respectively. Currently, Bell serves as an adjunct professor and senior research fellow at the Center for Alternative Investments in Emory University’s Goizueta Business School.

Taylor is an authority in the convergence of business analytics, information security and the implementation of technology to boost organizational performance. He launched Oversight Systems to provide executives and business managers with clear, actionable insights from a sea of otherwise insurmountable data. The company currently analyzes more than $2 trillion worth of business transactions each year.

Previously, Taylor held leading positions with many notable groups such as Internet Security Systems (ISS), Symantec, ORACLE, Red Brick Systems, GO, Air2Web, and Fast-Talk. An avid Yellow Jackets fan, he holds a bachelor’s in mechanical engineering from Georgia Tech, as well as an MBA from the Harvard Business School.

“We are honored to welcome such distinguished business professionals as Mark and Patrick to the College of Computing Advisory Board,” said Zvi Galil, John P. Imlay Jr. Dean of Computing at Georgia Tech. “Both are brilliant and accomplished individuals who not only can help us adapt and maximize our relationships with industry in vital research areas such as machine learning and data science, but they also genuinely care about Georgia Tech and, along with their fellow board members, will be effective stewards of the College’s proud legacy of innovation and success.”

The College’s Advisory Board will meet April 6 and 7 on the Georgia Tech campus.
