Abstract:
Exercise has known rehabilitative and protective effects on muscular, cardiovascular and central nervous systems. In this presentation, I will present data showing that voluntary or involuntary, treadmill exercise also has protective effects on retinal neurons in several different retinal diseases, including photoreceptor degenerations and diabetic retinopathy. A potential role for brain derived neurotrophic factor will be explored.
