Springing into the Semester: Events You Don't Want to Miss

Welcome back, Jackets! With the semester well underway and schedules set, it's time to mark your calendars for upcoming spring events.
Get ready for another great semester with classic traditions along with new activities.
January
Jan. 27: Masquerade: Engineer's Ball 2017
The Society of Women Engineers hosts its annual Engineer's Ball at 8 p.m. in the Student Center Ballroom. Enjoy music, a photo booth, refreshments, and giveaways. This year, the ball is semi-formal with a masquerade theme. Tickets are $7 each or two for $10.
February
Feb. 2: Spring All Majors Career Fair
With more than 4,000 students on average having attended past career fair events focused solely on co-ops and internships, the first Spring All-Majors Career Fair expects an even greater draw. Students from all majors can attend for full-time positions, as well as co-op and internship opportunities.
Feb. 2: Public Night at the Observatory
Head to the top of the Howey Physics Building to observe the night sky from Georgia Tech.
Feb. 9: Energy Expo
The Energy Club at Georgia Tech hosts its annual expo that includes guest speakers, research presentations, panel discussions, and networking opportunities.
Feb.11: WALL-E
Project One hosts a free screening of WALL-E at 8 p.m. in the Student Center Theater.
Feb. 16: Georgia Tech Night at the Aquarium
The Student Center Programs Council, with support from the Student Government Association, Campus Services, and the Parents Fund, hosts this annual event. The Georgia Aquarium will be open exclusively to Tech students, faculty, staff, and guests from 6 to 11 p.m.
Feb. 16: Social Enterprise Career Fair
Enterprise to Empower (En2Em) hosts its annual fair for students looking for internships and jobs in the social enterprise space.
Feb. 17: Ivan Allen Jr. Prize for Social Courage
The Ivan Allen Jr. Prize for Social Courage will be presented to Jimmy and Rosalynn Carter. The campus community can watch the accompanying event and symposium online.
Feb. 23: Social Media: Managing the Illusion of Connection
The Counseling Center hosts this workshop that will explore ways of balancing the need for fundamental, human connection with the demands of social media, at 11 a.m. in Room 117, Instructional Center.
Feb. 28: Campus Services Loves Students Carnivale
Head to the Student Center from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. for free food, games, and prizes.
March
March 3: Commencement Fair
If you're graduating this semester, this is your one-stop shop to take care of all your related needs.
March 4: Dance Marathon 2017
The mission of For the Kids (FTK) at Georgia Tech is to raise money for the Children's Miracle Network and Children's Healthcare of Atlanta by holding fundraisers throughout the year. The year culminates with FTK's final fundraiser in the spring, Dance Marathon. Come out to support FTK and dance the day away.
March 8: Alumni Career Fair
Students graduating in 2017 are eligible to attend the annual Georgia Tech Alumni Career Fair at the Cobb Galleria Centre.
March 9 – 11: Society of Women Engineers Region D Conference at Georgia Tech
The Georgia Tech Section of the Society of Women Engineers invites students to participate in the 2017 SWE Region D Conference. This year’s theme is Growing Together.
March 11: Tech Beautification Day
Volunteer with friends to make Tech more beautiful. Project Coordinator applications are out now, and volunteer applications open Feb. 20.
March 15: InVenture Prize Finals
Tech students will present their innovations in the nation's largest undergraduate invention competition at the Ferst Center for the Arts. The event is live and televised. Tickets are free and can be requested online.
March 17: First Round Voting Closes for Gift to Tech
The Student Alumni Association (SAA) Gift to Tech is a yearly, monetary contribution all SAA members make to Tech toward a campus project selected by students. The voting process began on Jan. 9 and allstudents are invited to cast one vote for their favorite project from the 2016-17 Gift to Tech options before March 17. Cast your vote here. The top three projects will be announced on March 27.
March 20 – 24: Spring Break
Enjoy your week off, Jackets! Use this time to explore Atlanta, your hometown, or somewhere new (or catch up on sleep).
March 30: Sting Break
This annual Student Center Programs Council event closes the Fifth Street Bridge for fun, games, and rides. More information to come.
April
April 1: Women's Leadership Conference
This year's conference will take place at the Georgia Tech Research Institute with the theme Still I Rise. The event features a keynote speaker, awards ceremony, and discussion opportunities.
April 4: When the Whistle Blows
The Tech community gathers to remember those who have died during the past year.
April 13: Lavender Graduation
Every April, all members of the Tech community are invited to honor lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, intersex, asexual, and ally graduates at the annual Lavender Graduation celebration.
April 14: Ideas to SERVE Finals
This annual competition focuses on ideas that create a better world and is open to all Tech students. The final showcase will take place in the atrium of the Scheller College of Business.
April 20: Student Honors Celebration
High achievers, both undergraduate and graduate, are honored at this annual spring event.
April 21: Earth Day
The Southeast's largest Earth Day festival celebrates its 20th anniversary this year on Tech Walk.
April 21: Faculty/Staff Honors Lunch
Standout Tech employees are honored at this annual event.
April 22: Pi Mile Road Race
Weaving through Tech’s campus for the 45th year, the Pi Mile Road Race is one of the longest continually held 5Ks in Atlanta. Enjoy all of the Pi Mile’s traditional race day activities – music, food, hanging out with Buzz – as well as new surprises. Be a part of this fun 3.141592… tradition with fellow Georgia Tech alumni, students, family, and friends.
