Screening for depression disorders, like any other physiccal illness, is important because it allows health care providers to identify these illnesses early on, making treatment more effective. Screenings are often the first step in getting help.
Facts About Depression:
- More than 19 million Americans suffer from clinical depression, regardless of age, gender, race or socioeconomic status.
- Two-thirds of those suffering from the illness do not seek the necessary treatment.
- More than 80 percent of all cases of clinical depression can be effectively treated with medication, psychotherapy or a combination of both.
Screenings are conducted by the Georgia Tech Counseling Center, located on the second floor of the Smithgall Student Services (Flag) Building. The serves are free of charge for Georgia Tech students who are enrolled.
