The Review of International Economics has accepted for publication a paper co-authored by associate professor Tibor Besedeš and Matthew T. Cole (Cal Poly) titled “Distorted Trade Barriers: A Dissection of Trade Costs in a ‘Distorted Gravity’ Model.” The paper shows that in certain models of international trade tariffs and shipping costs do not have identical effects.
