The Week Ahead: September 19-25

On Thursday, Sep. 22, the fall season will begin and the academic year will officially be in full swing. As schedules get busier and coursework becomes more difficult, don’t forget to balance work with leisure time. Enjoy the variety of events this week. From the College of Computing Career Fair to the Atlanta Greek Festival, there are plenty of opportunities for work and play.  

Monday

I Feel Safe When ____

  • When: 11 a.m. - 4 p.m.
  • Where: Student Center and Tech Walkway
  • What: Coordinated by the Office of the Arts and led by Jennifer Edwards, the “I Feel Safe When” project was developed to understand issues regarding safety. This project allows students to reflect on safety by completing the “I feel safe when” statement on cards that will be shared anonymously and then displayed. Stop by the Student Center or Tech Walkway to fill out a card and join the discussion.
 Tuesday

College of Computing 2016 Fall Career Fair

  • When: Tuesday-Friday from 9:30 a.m. – 3:30 p.m.
  • Where: Klaus Atrium
  • What: The College of Computing will host its bi-annual career fair from Tuesday, Sep. 20 to Friday, Sep. 23. Students should attend to speak with companies including Microsoft, Amazon, Facebook, and more. Click here for a full list of employers.  

 Study Abroad 101

  • When: 11 a.m. – 12 p.m.
  • Where: Savant Building; Room 308
  • What: Students may be surprised to learn that Georgia Tech offers over 120 different study abroad programs. To learn more about these opportunities, the Office of International Education will host an informative session to give students general information about study abroad and how to start the application process.

STEM Women’s Coffee Talk

  • When: 2 – 3 p.m.
  • Where: Women’s Resource Center
  • What: The Women’s Resource Center and Women in Engineering have partnered to present a Coffee Talk for undergraduate and graduate women majoring in STEM fields. Students will have the opportunity to discuss technical and personal topics in an informal setting. Come out for coffee, tea, dessert, and a nice chat.

Georgia Tech vs. Clemson

  • When: 7:30 p.m. – 11:30 p.m.
  • Where: Bobby Dodd Stadium at Historic Grant Field
  • What: Come out to cheer on the Yellow Jackets as they take on the Clemson Tigers at home. Make sure to wear white as this game is a Whiteout. Go Jackets!

Georgia Tech Night at Six Flags

  • When: 6 p.m. – 12 a.m.
  • Where: Six Flags
  • What: The Student Center Programs Council, with support from the Student Government Association, Campus Services, and WREK Radio, will host the annual Georgia Tech Night at Six Flags on Friday, Sep. 23. During this night, Six Flags will be open exclusively to Georgia Tech students, faculty, staff and guests. Purchase tickets here or at the door. Free transportation will be provided with buses leaving the Student Center beginning at 4:45 p.m., but students must register for a ride in advance.

Atlanta Greek Festival

  • When: Sep. 22- Sep. 25
  • Where: Greek Orthodox Cathedral; 2500 Clairmont Rd NE
  • What: Food, fun, and opa! Come out to the Atlanta Greek Festival to experience a taste of Greek culture. The first Atlanta Greek Festival was held in 1974 and the tradition will continue at the Greek Orthodox Cathedral of the Annunciation. The event will feature vendors with food, ceramics, jewelry, clothing, and more. Tickets are $5. Visit here for more information.
