The Design and Technology for Healthy Aging (DATHA) Initiative at Georgia Tech welcomes William (Bill) Strang, who will discuss "Sustainable Products for a Sustainable Living" at TOTO.

At TOTO, Bill is the Vice President of Operations with responsibility for all operations, including supply chain, design and development engineering, Quality, ISO, environmental and all four of TOTO plants: Morrow, GA; Lakewood, GA; Fairburn, GA; and Ontario, CA with 1.4 million sq ft under roof.

During Bill's tenure, TOTO's Morrow Manufacturing Facility has benefited from 5S techniques implemented by a team lead by TS Lee, his Morrow plant manager. With the implementation of 5S techniques, TOTO has improvements in the following area:

Under Bill's leadership, TOTO's manufacturing facility has received awards for 5S implementation, US EPA Water Efficiency Leadership Award. And recognized by Georgia Power as a leader in the use of Green Energy TOTO USA has also achieved ISO 9001:2000 and ISO 14001:2004.

From the beginning of his time at TOTO sustainability has been the moral compass that has provided the guiding principles for each and every action and program. With this approach to every aspect of the business TOTO has achieved a culture that continuously strives to reduce, reuse and recycle and return to society more than is given.

TOTO USA has also developed secondary uses or recycling channels for the waste streams from the manufacturing process.

TOTO USA has repurposed waste streams from the manufacturing process. This includes all fired porcelain, clay slurry, cans, bottles, plastic, cardboard, wood, paper and electronics.

Bill was recently honored in 2008 to receive the prestigious Argon Award for leadership in sustainability, previous winners of this award have been Ted Turner - Chairman of the Turner Foundation, Arthur Blank - co founder of Home Depot, Jim Jacoby - Founder and CEO of Jacoby Development and Ray Anderson - Chairman of Interface Company.
