Review Finds Peripheral Thermometers Lack Clinical Accuracy.

Primary tabs

HealthDay (11/17, Preidt) reports on a study published online in the Annals of Internal Medicine based on a review of 75 published studies finding that rectal thermometers are “the best way to determine someone’s body temperature.” Other measurements are “less accurate than rectal thermometers, particularly for low-grade fevers.” As a result, the findings indicate that when the “patient’s temperature will influence diagnosis and treatment,” a rectal thermometer should be used.
