Women, young adults see smallest decline in CHD death rates, study finds

On its website, CBS News (8/25, Manacher) reports thatresearch published in Circulation indicates that “while deaths from coronary heart disease [CHD], the most common type, have declined dramatically in older Americans over the last few decades, those improvements were not shared equally by people under 55, especially women.” The research “also notes that social and psychological risk factors, such as depression and stress, may play a role in the development of heart disease.” HealthDay (8/25, Preidt) reports that “rising rates of obesity and diabetes among younger adults could be working against efforts to curb heart disease death rates in this age group…said” the investigators.
