Oak Ridge National Laboratory: Looking to the Future with Dr. Thomas Zacharia

Dr. Thomas Zacharia is the Deputy Director for Science and Technology at Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL). He is currently leading a major road mapping effort to map out the "big science questions" that Oak Ridge needs to position itself to prepare for response. In this seminar, he will introduce the lab, talk about big science questions, current lab discretionary R&D spending priorities, and discuss ways in which faculty can interact with Georgia Tech. As Deputy Director, Dr. Zacharia oversees one of the nation’s largest research and development programs, with an annual budget of more than $1.4 billion, and a portfolio that spans physical sciences, energy and engineering sciences, computing and computational sciences, neutron sciences, and global security for the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) and other sponsors.
