Sabri Gokmen is a fifth year PhD student in Design Computation program and who studies German Romanticism and computational morphology, particularly focusing on theoretical concepts outlined by Johann Wolfgang von Goethe in early eighteenth century. His dissertation is a historical and theoretical re-evaluation of Goethe’s works on natural sciences, literature and aesthetics, while developing digital tools to study its implications on understanding form and growth in both natural and architectural morphogenesis.
Sabri was born in Turkey where he received his BS from Middle East Technical University (2007). He achieved his Master of Science degree at Georgia Institute of Technology on Digital Design and Fabrication (2011) with Fulbright scholarship. Since his graduation he taught various courses on parametric modeling, scripting, digital media and architectural design studios focusing on design theory and methodology. Apart from academic teaching, Gokmen has been involved with the School of Architecture year end publications as co-editor since 2010.
