(October 2, 2006)—Three-time College of Computing Alumna Dr. Ana (Annie) Antón was recently appointed by Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Secretary Michael Chertoff to serve on the DHS Data Privacy and Integrity Advisory Committee. The committee advises Secretary Chertoff and the DHS Chief Privacy Officer on “programmatic, policy, operational, administrative and technological issues relevant to DHS that affect individual privacy, data integrity and interoperability, and other privacy-related issues.” Antón will serve a four-year term on the committee.

Antón is currently an associate professor of computer science at North Carolina State University, and the founder and director of ThePrivacyPlace.org, a research group of students and faculty at Georgia Tech, NC State and Purdue University. She is co-founder of the Biannual Symposium on Requirements Engineering for Information Security (SREIS), and was named a National Science Foundation (NSF) Career Award winner in 2000. Antón was also named a Computing Research Association Digital Government Fellow in 2002, and is a Senior Research Ethics Fellow for 2006-08.

Antón received her B.S., M.S. and Ph.D. in computer science from the College of Computing at Georgia Tech in 1990, 1992 and 1997, respectively.
