Bio

Taesoo Kim is an assistant professor in the School of Computer Science in the College of Computing at the Georgia Institute of Technology, which he joined after finishing his doctorate at MIT. He is interested in building a system where underlying principles justify why it should be secure. Those principles include the design of the system, analysis of its implementation, and clear separation of trusted components.  His thesis work focused on detecting intrusions and their recovery on computer systems. He has developed tools that automatically identify which parts of an operating system could have been affected, allowing a system administrator to recover from a cyberattack without excessive manual effort.  His thesis work became the foundation of a company called Nerati, which he co-founded with colleagues during his graduate study. He holds a bachelor’s from KAIST, a master’s and doctorate from MIT -- each in computer science. Kim is affiliated with the Institute for Information Security & Privacy at Georgia Tech.
