"Macau should invest in solar energy to preserve the environment, advocates a study of three American and Chinese researchers. Local experts to agree, but point to the lack of space and pollution."

Macau's news reported Perry Yang, Steven Quan and Zhengwei Li's findings about using solar energy design guidelines to offset their carbon emission in the city of Macau, and doing this by selecting high performance building typology in their recently reclaimed waterfront development area.

Authors of the journal article include Zhengwei Li (Ph.D. In Architecture from Georgia Tech 12’, previous TA for the studio project), Steven Quan (Ph.D. Candidate of City and Regional Planning) and corresponding author, Perry Yang (Associate Professor and Director of Eco Urban Lab, School of City and Regional Planning and School of Architecture).

Georgia Tech received a $30,000 sponsorship from Macau Urban Planning Institute to support the research. "We ran an Ecological Urbanism Studio in 2011 'Global Cities Benchmarking on Carbon Footprints' to benchmark Macau’s urban energy-carbon performance and other global cities. The same studio project was also selected at the Association of Collegiate Schools of Architecture (ACSA) 100th annual meeting for exhibition in 2012 at MIT," Yang stated.
