The Winding Road to Topological Insulators
Primary tabs
School of Physics Colloquium: Prof. Gene Mele, University of Pennsylvania
This talk will review progress in the classification of insulating states of matter, focusing on the unique properties of topological insulators and their discovery from a careful consideration of the low energy electronic physics of single-layer graphene. Physical realizations in two dimensional spin-orbit coupled semiconductors and in three dimensional materials will be discussed.
