Institute Diversity is proud to announce that Georgia Tech received the 2015 Higher Education Excellence in Diversity (HEED) Award from INSIGHT Into Diversity. For the second consecutive year, Georgia Tech is being recognized for its comprehensive approach to diversity and its efforts to make the campus accessible to all groups of underrepresented students, faculty, staff, and administration.

“We are honored by this recognition from INSIGHT Into Diversity as diversity is one of the major priorities identified in our 25-year strategic plan,” said Archie Ervin, vice president of Institute Diversity and president of the National Association of Diversity Officers in Higher Education. “It has been a landmark year for the Institute from the record-setting freshman class in its diversity to the launches of the Staff Diversity, Inclusion, and Engagement and the Center for Student Diversity and Inclusion units, but there is still more work to do.” 

The HEED Award is the only national award honoring U.S. colleges and universities that demonstrate an outstanding commitment to diversity and inclusion throughout their campuses. In a process similar to the holistic review used by college admissions counselors, each individual institution is rated by its commitment to broadening diversity and inclusion on campus through initiatives, programs, and outreach; student recruitment, retention, and completion; and hiring practices for faculty and staff.
