TITLE: Introduction to HSI

SPEAKER: Dr. Gregory Abowd

ABSTRACT:

Research and education in health systems at Georgia Tech has a long history, but there has been a definite surge in interest over the past five years. The Health Systems Institute was established in 2006 as a means of coalescing a variety of different research perspectives between Georgia Tech and Emory. In this talk, I will give an overview of the mission of HSI and describe the variety of projects that various faculty and students are engaged in. Featured in this talk will be several major efforts in partnership with Children's Healthcare of Atlanta.

BIO
Gregory Abowd is a Distinguished Professor in the School of Interactive Computing and the Interim Director of the Health Systems Institute. In his 14-year career at Georgia Tech, he has worked on applications of ubiquitous computing technology in real environments, with landmark projects Classroom 2000 and the Aware Home. Through his involvement with the Aware Home, he and others in GVU and the School of Interactive Computing have looked at applications that impact important health questions around chronic care management. In his new role with HSI, he is leading a much broader research agenda to see how to impact all aspects of healthcare delivery.
