AE Students, Faculty and Alumni Recognized at AHS 2013 Annual Awards Event

May 22, 2013 was a great day for the AE School. Students, faculty and distinguished alumni received numerous awards at the American Helicopter Society (AHS) Annual Awards Event held in Phoenix, AZ.

Awards

  • AHS Atlanta Chapter was awarded the Chapter with the greatest percentage increase in membership (Prof. Marilyn Smith, Faculty Advisor, Sylvester Ashok, President)
  • Vertical Flight Foundation (VFF) Fellowships: Joachim Hodara (Charles Crawford Scholarship), Michael Mayo (John Zuk Scholarship), Rajiv Shenoy (Charles Crawford Scholarship)
  • Harry T. Jensen Award given to AH-64E Composite Tail Boom Development Team.  Team includes Dr. William Lewis, AMRDEC (GT Alumnus)
  • Howard Hughes Award given to Sikorsky Aircraft Active Ground Resonance Stability Augmentation Design and Test Team:  Dr. Hong Xin (Alumnus), Dr. James Rigby (Alumnus)
  •  Paul E. Hauter Award given for outstanding technical contributions to VTOL Aircraft Development:  Richard Spivey (Director of Army AMDD, retired, Alumnus)
  • AHS Honorary Fellow, granted to distinguished society members wtih exceptional leadership and innovative technical contributions:  Nick Lappos, Senior Technical Fellow, Sikorsky (Alumnus)
  • AE undergraduate design team presented their Award winning Helicopter Design Concept, in partnership with students of Middle East Technical University, Ankara, Turkey.  AE Team members: Juan Pablo Afman, Michael Avera, Michael Burn,Christopher Cofelice, Peter Johnson, Robert Lee, Ian Moore,  Travis Smith, Eliya Wing - Faculty Advisor: Dr. Daniel Schrage. Middle East Technical U Team Members: Gökçin Çinar, Yakut Cansev KüçükosmanÖzge Sinem Özçakmak and their faculty advisor: Dr. Ilkay Yavrucuk.
